PIMS Cuts Fees for Non-Clinical PG Courses Under Management Quota 2024-25

Puducherry: The Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has announced a reduction in the annual tuition fees for non-clinical postgraduate (PG) medical courses under the management quota for the academic year 2024-25.

According to the notification, the Fee Committee has set the tuition fees for the PG Non-Clinical State Government Quota at Rs. 6,55,000/- and for the Management Quota at Rs. 13,05,000/- for the academic year 2024-25. However, the PIMS Management Committee has decided to lower the annual tuition fees for management quota seats in non-clinical subjects to match those of the State Government Quota students, resulting in a significant reduction.

The revised annual tuition fees for both categories—Management Quota and State Government Quota—are now Rs. 6,55,000/- for the following non-clinical PG courses:

S.NO PG/MD/MS Course Speciality Total PG Seats (2024-25) Management Quota Seats Government Quota Seats Annual Tuition Fees (2024-25)
1 MD Anatomy 2 1 1 Rs. 6,55,000/-
2 MD Physiology 4 2 2 Rs. 6,55,000/-
3 MD Biochemistry 2 1 1 Rs. 6,55,000/-
4 MD Pharmacology 2 1 1 Rs. 6,55,000/-
5 MD Pathology 3 2 1 Rs. 6,55,000/-
6 MD Microbiology 4 2 2 Rs. 6,55,000/-
7 MD Community Medicine 4 2 2 Rs. 6,55,000/-
Total   21 11 10

This reduction has been implemented as more than 75% of non-clinical specialties remain unfilled or vacant. By lowering the fees, PIMS hopes to attract more students to enroll in these PG (non-clinical) courses. The fee reduction comes as part of the counseling process conducted by CENTAC (Govt. of Puducherry).

Despite the reduction for non-clinical courses, the PIMS management continues to request an increase in fees for both government and management seats in clinical specialties to maintain the quality of medical education and cross-subsidize the lower-demand non-clinical specialties.
