GMC Ananthapuram Receives NMC Approval for 50 Additional MBBS Seats

Ananthapuram: The National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has approved an additional 50 MBBS seats for Government Medical College (GMC) Ananthapuram for the academic year 2024-2025. This decision was communicated after the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's 2nd Appeal Committee shared its approval with the NMC on 09/09/2024.

With this approval, GMC Ananthapuram will now offer 200 MBBS seats for the upcoming academic year. The Letter of Permission (LoP) issued by the NMC requires the college to maintain infrastructure standards, faculty, and clinical material in accordance with its regulations throughout the academic year.

The NMC also warned that any false declarations or misconduct could result in the revocation of this approval and further legal action. Additionally, GMC Ananthapuram must contribute 15% of its MBBS seats and 50% of its postgraduate seats (MD/MS) to the All India Quota, as mandated by the Supreme Court.

Earlier, MARB granted MBBS admission to 44 new medical colleges and approved seat increases in 19 existing colleges for the 2024-2025 academic year. Among these, 14 medical colleges received approval for 50 additional MBBS seats. GMC Ananthapuram received its approval after filing a second appeal with the Union Health Ministry.
