The National Medical Commission secretary announced that registrations for NEET UG 2024 counseling will start on August 14.
The results announced on June 4 revealed that a record 67 candidates scored a perfect 720 marks, tying for the top spot. Among them, six students secured the top positions due to extra marks awarded for time lost during the exam because of invigilator errors.
Dr. B. Srinivas, Secretary of the National Medical Commission (NMC), announced that the registration process for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 counseling will start on August 14. Candidates should visit the MCC website for the latest updates and notices regarding counseling.
"We are starting the counseling for NEET UG on August 14. We may prepare the registration process for the students. The process will continue for 2 months, and eligible students across the country can participate. The counseling will be conducted online in four rounds," said Dr. B. Srinivas.
When asked about specific guidelines, Dr. B. Srinivas added, "The guidelines are the same as last year. Students should have passed the NEET conducted by the National Testing Agency, and we will start their counseling based on the data provided by the NTA for those who meet the eligibility criteria."
Earlier, on Friday, the revised NEET UG 2024 results were released, with 17 students achieving a perfect score, marking a 75 percent drop in the number of toppers from the earlier declared results. The results released on June 4 revealed that a historic 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720, tying for the highest rank. Among these, six students secured the top positions due to extra marks awarded for time lost during the exam because of invigilator errors.
Moreover, 44 students obtained the top rank due to receiving "grace marks" for a basic physics question they answered incorrectly.
. However, the Supreme Court decided on Tuesday that there would be just one accurate answer, and responses deviating from it would not receive marks.
A retest was also conducted for students who lost time during the exam. After implementing these corrections, the count of qualified candidates decreased from 1,316,268 to 1,315,853, reflecting a reduction of 415. The NTA administered a retest for 1,563 candidates who experienced time loss during the exam.
The NEET UG 2024 examination, held on May 5, has faced controversy due to allegations of paper leaks, irregularities, and time losses during the exam.
