Notification:
Soon, Uttar Pradesh may see the addition of 12 new medical colleges, potentially increasing the number of MBBS seats to over 10,000. This development will significantly augment the total number of colleges in the state.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) is currently in the process of reviewing applications for the establishment of new medical colleges and the expansion of MBBS seats across the country. Among these applications are proposals for the creation of 12 new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, spanning districts such as Kushinagar, Pilibhit, Sultanpur, Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Lakhimpur Kheri, Kaushambi, Gonda, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Sonbhadra, and Chandauli. Additionally, applications for 100 new medical colleges in other states are also under consideration.
Several of these new colleges have already been affiliated with existing district hospitals, while others are undergoing the process of acquiring academic and clinical infrastructure. Presently, Uttar Pradesh boasts a total of 68 medical colleges, offering over 9,700 MBBS seats. The establishment of these 12 new medical colleges is expected to bring the state's capacity more in line with other leading states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Maharashtra, which have over 10,000 MBBS seats each.
Kinjal Singh, Director of General Medical Education in Uttar Pradesh, expressed optimism regarding the ongoing process, stating that applications for the 12 colleges in Uttar Pradesh are currently being reviewed by the NMC. Following inspections, any identified shortcomings will be addressed in a subsequent round to ensure compliance with regulations. Furthermore, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to establish at least one medical college in every district, potentially increasing the total number of medical colleges in the state to over 75, with certain districts already hosting multiple institutions. medical dialogues
