According to a Times Now report, the NTA NEET Cutoff 2024 is 720–164 for General/EWS candidates and 163–129 for SC/ST/OBC students. Last year's NEET qualifying scores were 136-107 for SC/ST/OBC, 136-121 for GN/EWS-PwD, and 720-137 for the GN/EWS category.
This year's NEET UG 2024 exam faced controversy due to a paper leak scam in Bihar. Medical Dialogues reported that around 13 people, including four examinees and their family members, were arrested in Bihar for their alleged involvement in the NEET-UG exam paper leak.
Patna police sources had previously asserted that NEET-UG question papers, along with their answers, were distributed to approximately 20 aspirants a day before the scheduled exam date, May 5, 2024. Subsequently, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police, taking charge of the investigation, disclosed that brokers implicated in the NEET paper leak scandal furnished the NEET UG 2024 question paper to candidates prior to the examination.
In response to these allegations, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was lodged before the Supreme Court, petitioning for a halt to the release of the exam results. Although the Apex Court declined to grant an immediate stay on the exam results, it consented to review the matter and issued a notice on the PIL, contemplating the possibility of re-conducting the NEET UG exams in light of the alleged malpractices and paper leak scandal.
More than 80 Candidates Score 720/720 Marks:
This year's NEET UG 2024 results have surprised many, as a large number of students reportedly scored a perfect 720 out of 720 marks. The Times Now reported that 89 students achieved full marks in the exam. Although NTA has yet to release the merit list for the NEET UG exam, this year's cutoff is reportedly unexpectedly high. Consequently, candidates with only a slight difference in scores have experienced significant differences in their ranks.
Raising the issue, the X (formerly Twitter) handle of 'Indian Doctor' shared that a candidate scoring 700 marks secured 2250 ranks, while another candidate with 685 marks secured 6777 ranks. Following this trend, candidates securing 675, 665, and 630 marks have allegedly secured ranks of 11600, 17800, and 48600, respectively.
"After the unexpected election results, we now have an unexpected NEET UG 2024 result," read a post by 'Indian Doctor' on X (formerly Twitter). Sharing an update on the NEET results, Dr. Syed Faizan Ahmad, Vice President of AIMSA (All India Medical Students' Association), mentioned in a post, "NEET UG result: 89 students scored 720/720 marks in the NEET UG exam." So now a lottery system will decide who will get AIIMS Delhi. In 2023, only 2 students secured 720/720."
