What is BAMS Full form in medical?

BAMS full form in medical is Bachelors of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery. It is an undergraduate course in the field of healthcare for the candidates willing to pursue ayurvedic sciences after 12th standard. Ayurveda is an alternative medicine system which has evolved around the years. It is the most ancient type of medicine which uses the basic herbal medicines, meditation, medical oils and laxatives that is available in the near surroundings. Ayurveda relies on natural and holistic approaches towards physical and mental health.

BAMS provides complete knowledge about Ashtanga Ayurveda along with scientific methodologies in modern medicine and its application in various diseases.

BAMS Course Admission 2024

BAMS admission is done through NEET UG scores which is conducted annually in the month of May in offline mode. For more information about the exam refer to NEET-UG overview.

  • It is a Multiple-Choice Question based exam which is conducted in offline mode.
  • The question paper comprises of total 200 questions out of which students have to attempt 180 questions of their own choice.
  • There are 3 main subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) which are further divided into sections.

The marking scheme is +4 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect answers. Centre Council of Indian Medicine is responsible for admission into BAMS courses in all the universities.

BAMS Course Eligibility

  1. The minimum age of applicant must be 17 years as of 31 December 2023.
  2. The upper limit is 25 years as on May 5 with an exemption of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC.
  3. Applicant must have pursued Physics, Chemistry, Biology as their subjects in 12 and passed with 50% in each subject.
  4. Applicant must have completed their 12th or will be completing 12th by 2023 from a recognized board or open school.
  5. Applicants must be a citizen of India, Non-Resident of India, Person of Indian Origin or Foreign National.
  6. The admissions are given on the basis of merit and the cutoff decided for that particular year.

BAMS Syllabus

BAMS full form in medical is Bachelors of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery. It is an undergraduate level medical course. This course duration is 5.5 years which includes 1 year of compulsory rotatory internship in various departments. It is one of the most valued professions in the country and across the globe.

This BAMS syllabus is divided into 3 sections:

Professional one, two and three

1st year Sanskrit, Padartha vigyan, Ayurveda itihas, Ashtanga hridayam, Kriya sharir, Swathavritta, Dravyagunna vigyan , Roga vigyan, Agada tantra
2nd year Agadtantra, Swaathavritta, Stri roga, Kaumarbhritaya, Panchakarma, Shalya, Shalakya, Research methodologies.

The first 4 years are theoretical learning while the last 1 year is compulsory rotatory internship wherein students gain hands on experience with patients.

  • 1st year – 12 months
  • 2nd year – 12 months
  • 3rd year- 18 months divided into 3rd first and 3rd second year.
  • 4th year- 10 months

Only after these 4.5 years of curriculum and 1 year of internship, the graduates earn an CCIM recognized practicing license and registration certificate. In case if a student is unable to fulfil his/her internship and retrieves his admission then he/she is subjected to penalty which is decided by the particular university.

BAMS Course Fees

BAMS course fees totally depend on your performance. because if your name comes from a government college, your tuition fee is low, but private college fees are high. 

  • For government colleges: 50,000 – 2,00,000
  • For semi-government colleges: 2,00,000 – 4,00,000
  • For private or deemed to be university: 7,50,000 – 10,00,000.

Scope After BAMS Course

In the recent times, the scope of BAMS and other healthcare sectors has increased 10 folds. There are increasing number of opportunities in this sector given the number of diseases and infections. There are various sectors like government, public, laboratories, emergency rooms, community healthcare centres and private practice.

The major recruiting agencies for BAMS candidates are Apollo Health Industries, Sun Pharma Industries, Fortis Healthcare, Zydus Healthcare etc.
